HON. RANDY OWUSU AMANKWA: A YOUTH PARLIAMENTARIAN AND PRESIDENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH YOUTH PARLIAMENT (CPA)

20.12.2014 LISTEN
By Africa Young Conservatives Dialogue

“A new breed of leaders who do not want to be remembered by history for their notoriety, disregard for human rights and bad governance but rather want to be part of the forward march towards the establishment of a better life for their people by using the expertise garnered for the good of the people. They are better educated, have a sense of history and are focused on securing a brighter future for their people. These leaders understand better, the nuances and intricacies of the international scene and are prepared to make a mark for themselves and their people. They are democratic in nature and are constitutionally-minded.''–Former President J.A.Kufour

Within the context of the above statement, it is sufficient to point out that, Africa's youth leadership has a critical role to play towards making itself relevant and useful playing a leading part in finding answers to the myriads of problems which confront the continent and particularly the large youth numbers or population.

Undoubtedly, Hon. Randy Owusu Amankwa,(Chief) Member of Parliament for the Manhyia North constituency in the Ashanti region has made great strides as a Youth Leader with sterling excellence which cannot be underestimated.

Indeed, having gone through the mill, firstly as a student activist with the intellectual wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) viz TESCON, he also served with the Youth wing of the party at the constituency level. Apparently and by dint of hard work and resolve rose finally to ascend the parliamentary seat.

It is therefore a refreshing piece of news for the Africa Young Conservatives Dialogue, Ghana (TAYCD, Ghana) that at the 6th Commonwealth Youth Parliamentary Assembly (CYPA) held at the North West Province of Mmabatho in South Africa in 8 November, 2014, Hon. Randy. Owusu. Amankwah was again nominated for the presidency of the CYPA.

Instructively, the Commonwealth Youth Parliament, is strand of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association(CPA) was established by the Government Head of Governments in 1973 with the objects of strengthening the democratic process in the commonwealth by deepening understanding of parliamentary democracy amongst young people and perforce seeks to provide young people in the commonwealth with a forum for expressing their ideas, concerns and expectations with regard to the twin themes of democracy and development. The TAYCD Ghana exceedingly wish to celebrate this sterling leadership role and proud ascension of one of Africa's finest youth legislators to the highest echelon of the leadership rung on the continent.

In the same vein, we wish to implore the honorable member and also one who share in the dialogues ideals to use this opportunity to help put forward and make a strong case for the effective conscription and involvement of the youth in the policy development efforts so as to help meet the growing expectations of the Continent's Youth (African Youth).

Indeed, youth mentorship and development as well as the development of the appropriate youth policy initiatives to advance their effective participation in the socio-economic discourse of the continent cannot be overlooked.

Finally and perhaps in conclusion, we wish to place premium on the following remarks by the Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nation (UN) on the leadership and involvement in our holistic development process by the youth: “my friends, no one is born a good citizen, no nation is born a democracy. Rather, both are processes that continue to evolve over a lifetime. Young people must be included from birth. A society that cuts itself off from its youth, severs its lifetime. It is condemned to bleed to death.''
