We're prepared to face new NDC executives - NPP, PNC, CPP

Ghana's biggest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has indicated that it is well prepared to face any combination of executives who will be elected at the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) national congress on Saturday.

The NPP's General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong told Citi News, his party will not shiver in their boots facing a new crop of NDC executives ahead of the 2016 general elections.

'We are very focused on our own programme despite the fact that it is always important to do what we call opposition research. I have an eye on those who run the opposition party because I believe that people make institutions so we have an eye on what they are doing,' he said.

Mr. Agyapong confirmed his invitation to the NDC's congress in Kumasi on Saturday and expressed his readiness to be present because according to him, the NDC's General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia' was in Tamale when I was elected and I would want to return that complement and also respect them.'

'I've never been to an NDC congress, it will be very interesting and I look forward to it. I wish them well,' he remarked.

The People's National Convention (PNC) has also expressed the hope that the NDC will elect strong executives which will challenge them to work hard in the 2016 general elections.

'We are confident that the NDC when they are a strong political party, it will give the PNC the impetus to be able to put our house in order so as to compete,' The PNC's General Secretary, Bernard Monah told Citi News.

He mentioned that the governing party 'since 1992, they have contributed significantly to our political discourse; in some ways negatively, in some ways positively' but he was hopeful that the two remaining years of the NDC will deepen the nation's democracy.

Monah also confirmed that he will attend the congress in Kumasi saying, 'we will be at the NDC national delegates' congress as a party to formally send our solidarity message to them. We wish the NDC and we believe that out of this, we will be able to get the best out of this nation.'

The Convention People's Party (CPP) on the other hand says they are not perturbed by the quality of the executives who will be elected.

The CPP's Ivor Greenstreet in an interview with Citi News, 'we just pray for travelling mercies for all the delegates who will be going there and that they will choose people who are ready to enhance our democracy.'

'Their real caliber is so far the failure of their own government so whatever executives who have put in place, if your government has failed to deliver on its manifesto and improve the lives of Ghanaians, what difference does that make who your executives are?' he asked.
