Ghana Institution of Engineers, a reputable construction firm in Ghana and Africa has called on the general public to seek for better counsel from the right engineers before they put up their building, when launching '1st Built Environment Clinic' at Rawlings park, Accra.
In an interview with the President of Ghana Institution of Engineers, Mr. Magnus Lincoln Quarshie he said, “There are professionals in the system that can help the public build right so they should consult them before they build their houses to avoid any future disaster. He further disclosed that consulting these professionals is not expensive but moderate.
“That's why the professional bodies; Ghana Institution of Surveyors, Ghana Institute of Architects, Ghana Institute of Planners and The Chartered Institute of Building have come to together to sensitize the public and address them on building problems” Mr. Magus noted.
He further advised the public to be law abiding particularly in the area of building. “I would like to discourage people from buying lands and building in water ways, because come March the rains will set out and some families who acquired land legitimately will suffer because of few people who bought land in water ways”.
Mr. Rockson Dogbegah, President of Chartered Institute of Building, in a statement said, “I see this step taken by Ghana Institution of Engineers as a revolution, you know why? This seed we are planting today, which is, 1st Building Environment clinic is a starting point of a major change in construction industry in Ghana”.
“The built environment professionals have come together to deal with this issues confronting Ghanaians. In the past I always say, we the built environment professionals have been sitting on a trench for so long, we have now planted a seed that will lead to resolving the problem that confront us in building industry.
Mr. Kwabena Adjei Seffah, Managing Director of Ghana Institute of Architects advised the public to seek better advice from the planners, architects and engineers before building,“Come and let us plan the generality of implacable living”.
Meanwhile, Mr. Isaac Larbie, Secretary of Ghana institution of Surveyors stated that, the public should first make sure their property is suited at the right position, we should solve problems before we get confronted to it.” For this purpose we the four professionals, that's; Surveyors, Architects, Planners and Builders are here to educate the public on the professionals who can help them live right and build right”.
