Communications Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah says in the short time President John Dramani Mahama has been in office, he has unveiled policies that will transform the economy.

He said, even though the president, “will never say that he has transformed Ghana into paradise, we are working very hard to transform the economy.”

Dr. Omane Boamah was speaking at the Greater Accra edition of the Government for the People Forum Thursday.

“In less than one year, President Mahama is walking the talk in transforming the economy,” he told a cheering crowd at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Ghana's economy is widely acknowledged to be facing serious crises with growth consistently declining and inflation rising steadily from single digit in 2011 to about 17% currently.

Government is currently in talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a possible bailout.

Despite these, Dr. Omane Boamah, believes the economic outlook is bright because of the government's progressive policies.

“[Work on] the Komenda Sugar Factory has started,” he stated.

The president in his State of the Nation Address this year, said, “financing has been finalized for the construction of a new sugar processing plant in Komenda in the Central Region.”

He said 20 million broiler project has started and is designed to facilitate the growth of the local poultry industry.

Government is determined to reduce the importation of poultry products by 40% in the next few years.

This will save for the country, valuable foreign exchange, he noted.
