Opportunistic Financiers Invading NDC Like Boko Haram—Incumbent Chairman

Opportunistic and business-minded people are invading the governing National Democratic Congress like Boko Haram, the party's incumbent National Chairman has said.

Dr Kwabena Adjei told StarrFM's Ibrahim Alhassan in an interview that the “invaders” are not original members of the party, but businessmen who just want to exploit the political attractiveness of the NDC.

“They are invaders, they are more than Boko Haram…they are really invading and those who are invading are not the original party members.

“They are members who have just stormed the party because the party has become attractive as a business unit and I don't like it,” he said.

The two-time Chairman who is seeking to win for the third consecutive time, said it was, therefore, important for the grassroots members of the party to contribute to the NDC's funding, as part of the strategy to ward off the “invaders”.

“If you depend on external sources rather than internal sources to fund your party, you lose the collective ownership of that party,” he warned, adding: “…There's no free lunch anywhere my brother.”

Dr Kwabena Adjei is fighting off competition from former Minister of Trade and Industry Dan Abodakpi, former General Secretary Huudu Yahaya and National Disaster Management Organisation Coordinator Kofi Portophy for the national chairman slot.

The party's congress is scheduled for the Ashanti regional Capital, Kumasi on December 20, 2014.
