It all started as a hoax, but I think gradually it is making some noise out there. I remember about three years ago, this Joyce Dzidzor currently known as the Fake HIV/AIDS Ambassador in Ghana was one of the highly respected and well known HIV patients in the country. If someone had told me earlier on that a day will come that we as people of Ghana will call for the crucifixion of this HIV/AIDS Ambassador, I would have argue with the person.
About a year ago my elder sister told me that, she doesn't believe that Joyce Dzidzor Mensah is an HIV patient, because, how can an HIV patient walk about parading herself as an infected person. I didn't even let my sister end her statement and I vigorously defended Joyce that she is, and it's true that she is infected. She is really doing a good job, I added. I have also watched most of her documentaries narrating her ordeal and sometimes I even feel like shedding tears.
What happened that all of a sudden you come out to tell the whole Ghana that you lied about your HIV status, that you are negative and had never been positive? And do you expect the humble people of Ghana to believe these stories? This is a fine way of making ends meet but I think we need a season two of the story.
She made a good argument when trying to defend herself, by saying that she did that for a good cause and at least people confined in her and has been able to reduce HIV/AIDS stigmatization and she need to be recommended for that. I think that is for a good cause but doesn't need any recommendation. She rather has to come out and through the same medium that she claimed to be HIV positive and apologize to the people of Ghana.
I am also highly disappointed in the so called Ghana AIDS Commission. I would like to known on what grounds did they stood to appoint Joyce DzidzorMensah as their HIV/AIDS Ambassador? And this is the second day after Joyce came out to say that she is HIV negative and has never tested positive. Again a group calling itself NAP +, that is (people living with HIV/AIDS) has also stated that Joyce is positive and have evidence to prove that. I'm asking, what is the Ghana AIDS Commission still doing? They should drag the lady to a laboratory for various tests to be run on her.
I also think she wants to spread the disease and it is causing fear and panic to the general public. Due steps need to be taken to address this issue. This country has been taken for granted for too long.
