IS THE PRESIDENT’S BROTHER DISRESPECTING THE ASANTEHENE?

IS THE PRESIDENTS BROTHER DISRESPECTING THE ASANTEHENE?
16.12.2014 LISTEN

I doffed my heart out for the young engineer business man brother of the first gentleman of the land Ibrahim Mahama when I heard that he has accorded the Asantehene and occupant of the golden stool, the respect of withdrawing the case of defamation he brought against the vibrant and energetic NPP regional chairman of Ashanti Bernard Antwi-Boasiako.

As was reported by the media last weekend, the occupant of the golden stool upon learning of the suit filed by Ibrahim, called the two (2) gentlemen during a public durbar held in Kumasi and publicly pleaded with them to leave in peace and harmony.

For me, the fact that the two gentlemen unconditionally accepted the Asantehene's plea and shook hands before him, as a display of brotherliness meant that the matter had ended and died with the Asantehene. What was left was a formal withdrawal from the law court by the plaintiff and that was expected to take place on the last adjourned date of December 11th 2014.

Surprisingly however, I heard counsel for Ibrahim-Charles Zueness speak to the media few moments after court hearing on the Thursday December, 11 suggesting that the matter which the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu has intervened was not over and that they (Plaintiffs) were only going to withdraw or settle the matter if Chairman Wontumi renders an unqualified public apology, a statement I consider, as not only undermining the respect of the Asantehene but also a clear case of affront on the Otumfour and the golden stool for that matter.

As a member of the NDC therefore I wish to advise the younger brother of the President to know that as far as we Ghanaians are concerned our tradition has thought us to revere our traditional institution and for that matter our chiefs especially the Otumfour and therefore their interventions in such matters end them automatically and unconditionally.

I take this opportunity therefore to freely advise the Ibrahim Mahama to show respect to Nana Asantehene and the golden stool by ordering his lawyers to unconditionally withdraw the matter for peace to reign.

For me as a staunch member of the NDC, I will be happy to see an end to the matter because the longer its lingers on, the more popular the regional NPP Chairman becomes although I personally believe he doesn't deserve that much attention

I also wish to urge Ibrahim Mahama to concentrate and distance himself from the political activities of the brother if he is really a non-political businessman as he has always want us to believe, else people will continue to associate him and his businesses with the president whom many rightfully or wrongfully suspect of enriching him (Ibrahim) through the award of lucrative state contracts.

Such a move will not only give him dignity but will equally block people like Chairman Wontumi from attacking and linking him to misappropriation of state funds, for I can foresee that the NPP regional Chairman of Ashanti has more poisonous venom and is looking for victims such as Ibrahim to spit on.

A WORD TO THE WISE IS ENOUGH!
