Police Assault Star Fm Journalists to coma
16.12.2014 LISTEN

Information reaching the New Crusading Guide indicates that four Journalists working with Star FM in Atebubu have been beating to pulp by some identified Police officers for fighting for their human rights.

The Journalists include, James Fordjour, sports Director with star Fm, Patrick Nti, sports presenter Edgar Appiah sports presenter and Reuben Einseye, General Manager of the FM station.

Narrating the facts of the case to the New Crusading Guide, Reuben Einseye, the General Manager said on Saturday December 13 2014, around 10pm, the journalists were returning from a party in a Peugeot saloon car. “When we got to the district office of the National Democratic Congress, the two Police officers namely corporal George Amankwaa and SK Baffoe who were also driving a Peugeot car with registration number 110412, had parked in the middle of the road and chatting with a lady who was leaning on their car .. At that moment there was a long vehicle coming from the opposite direction so we had no option than to park behind the vehicle the Police officers were using”. After the trailer had passed our car took off and whiles leaving the hand of Fordjour coincidentally touched the lady. This is where the misunderstanding ensued. The police officers who were then in mufti said they did not understand why the hand of Fordjour had touched the lady who was standing in the middle of the road leaning on their car at that hour. They crossed our car and brought us out. They began to beat us . They beat Fordjour and dragged him on the street like a thief till he collapsed. The others were not spared. We were severely beating and molested. Not the constant pleading for mercy was able to save us or end the assault” he said .

“When they dragged us to the Police station, they continued to beat us and the officers at the station at the time couldn't save the situation. So they sent an SOS message to the district police commander ASP George Antwi Tano and Chief Inspector Nyarko who came to save the situation. This enabled us to rush Fordjour who had already gone into coma to the Atebubu District hospital for treatment. We also went to treat our wounds. In fact we lost all our monies mobile phones and working gadgets in the process.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Christopher Tawiah in an interview with the New Crusading Guide in relation to the issue said he received a complaint from the victims and told them to lodge a complaint with the District Police station which they did. “We are following it up. It is an assault case and we will soon take an action on it” we want everybody to be rest assured.

Subsequently , the New Crusading Guide learnt that on the day of assault, the Two Police office were assigned to join their colleague Police officers on patrol duties on the highways to fights highway robbery but they decided to go on chilling spree instead of national duties.
