Christmas And New Year: A Time To Rededicate To The Highest Standard Of Life

By Abundant Robert K. AWOLUGUTU
All too soon, we shall draw the curtains to end this year and to welcome another brand New Year. It is around this period that we are privileged to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

The Christmas and New Year season is not only a time for giving and receiving, it is a great opportunity for sober reflection and stock taking of our successes and failures.

An age old wisdom says, “The unexamined life is not worth living”. The great Nelson Mandela was quoted to have told his audience: “There is no passion to be found playing small- in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” We are supposed to shine and make our dreams and visions become a reality for our benefit and the benefit of humanity in general.

As you celebrate Christmas think about the man whose life you are celebrating. It is about Jesus Christ, the wisest and greatest man to have walked this planet earth. If we follow his teachings and pattern our lives after his, peace, love and happiness will adorn our lives.

If you admire somebody, it is because of the qualities and attributes of that person you would want to ingrain into your own life.

Jesus was a very humble person. He was a good listener. What the Father taught him he imparted to others during his sojourn on earth. He taught people everywhere he went. Most of his travels were done on foot as there were no vehicles in his time. He was very accommodating and those he addressed included both the poor and the rich.

Jesus loved every one including children. He extended his unmerited favour to all without discrimination. His teachings helped people to know more about God.

He was compassionate. He fed the hungry and healed the sick. Those who had faith and believed in him had their burden relieved.

Jesus knew his purpose on earth and lived it. He focused on his vision and worked tirelessly to fulfill it. His mission was to let people know more about the Father so they can follow his teachings, be obedient and achieve a life of abundance, wealth, health, peace, love and happiness on earth and when they return to the Father.

Jesus was totally committed to serving humanity. He not only helped people to know about God, he shared his love to them, teaching them about the plan of salvation and eventually paid the supreme price in atonement for our sins.

Jesus suffered a lot for the sake of humankind. He was arrested on trumped up charges, humiliated, tried and executed by those who disagreed with his teachings.

He taught us to forgive our enemies. Before he gave up the ghost, he asked the Father to forgive his killers.

Jesus was undoubtedly the wisest in all human history. He would explain difficult things in a way that made it easy for people to understand. His wisdom was embedded in the sermons he delivered. In one such great sermon, he said: “Look at the birds in the sky. They do not plant seed. They do not store food in the houses. But God in heaven feeds them. Are you not worth more than they are?” Jesus was admonishing us to not worry about meeting our needs. God already knows what we want. In everything we do, we should put God first.

Jesus Christ is peace personified. He was described as the Prince of peace. He wanted everyone to live in peace with their neighbor. He preached peace and unity wherever he went.

As we celebrate his birth, let the qualities of Christ reflect in our lives and how we relate to our neighbours. The qualities of Christ must be a permanent feature of our lives and not only during Christmas. Though it is an occasion for sharing and showing love among others, revelers should avoid excessive eating and drinking as this could be harmful to health. Everything should be done in moderation.

Read the Bible to know the mind of Christ and his teachings and integrate them into your life for a better and fulfilling life.

As you prepare to enter the New Year, take an inventory of your life to determine your successes and failures to enable you make the needed changes to live a better life.

What changes would you like to see that would raise your standard of life? Take a critical look at every aspect of your life: your marriage, career path, personal finances, health, wealth, relationships and leisure among others. What would you exclude from your life and what would include to raise your standard of living which should radiate to all around you?

What important qualities would you integrate into your life to be a better person for the world? What new success nurturing habits would you embrace to achieve the goals that are important to you?

Look at the resolutions you made during the current year, were you able to strictly adhere to them and have you made any progress?

Delete unhelpful habits and create new habits that take your life forward. Copy the experts and do so correctly to improve all aspects of your life. Read the biographies and autobiographies of successful people and implement their strategies to become successful and leave a worthy legacy for current and future generations.

Remember if you do not change your thoughts, you cannot change anything in your life. Replace negative beliefs with empowering ones that motivate you into action to achieve your desired goals. Change negative thoughts into positive ones to enhance your prospects for a successful life.

Set powerful goals this year. Take positive steps and do not give up until you fulfill your ambitions and dreams in life.
