Press Statement Statement By Ashanti Youth Association AYA
NOV 27, 2014 LISTEN

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press

IN THE NAME OF THE ALMIGHTY GOD

We the People of Ghana, IN EXERCISE of our Sovereignty as a people under Article 1(1) of the 1992 Constitution, and in further exercise of our natural and inalienable right to demand responsible governance, which shall secure for ourselves, and posterity the blessings of liberty, equality of opportunity and prosperity; AND IN SOLEMN declaration and affirmation of our commitment to;

Freedom, Justice, Probity and Accountability; The Principle that all powers of Government spring from the Sovereign Will of the People; The Rule of Law; The protection and preservation of Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms, Unity and Stability for our Nation; Do humbly petition your High Office as follows:

Chapter 6, Article 35(6) b of the 1992 Constitution, further states: achieve reasonable regional and gender balance in recruitment and appointment to public offices.

It is in this close observation and careful study of the government, since assuming office in January, 2009 that have shown a big flouting the 1992 Constitution set out for all government.

The people of Ashanti Region have had to endure the insensitivity of this government from policies, appointments, and developmental projects and so on for all this while. Despite all the gains the regions makes to the national kitty, we are also treated as though aliens in our own land.

This obvious intentional strategy by government have reached its peak and the Youth of the region feels sinister agenda against the people the region and cannot be allowed to continue whilst the government enjoy all the gains from the region all in the name of unitary system.

It's the government telling the most hospitable people of Asante that, we don't have men competent enough to handle public institutions just as other regions have its competent natives handling theirs such as Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for example?

It's the government saying, policies such as NHIS Capitation can't be removed after almost three years of piloting and killed more than hundreds of people? Why has our region become the haven of illegal mining destroying all our water bodies and forest?

Asante Region have been subjected to these unfairness, prejudices, abuses and several other events the native of this region have gone through since the inception of this forth republic.

We the Asante Youth Association, are not against any person, creed, tribe, religion or political affiliation of anybody in this region or the country at large, but all we are saying is, we have in this region our natives who are competent, dedicated to the service of country and the region at heart.

We also know since the forth republic, successive government have sort to appoint persons who are sympathizers, loyalist and core party men into various public offices, eventhough not right but have been the convention and society seem not boarder about it.So that same convention must be apply to appointment of the region

All, we are saying by this release, is that, the government should appoint into public offices in this region natives of this region as been done in other nine regions.

Why, is the government, telling the people of Asante that, we have no Senior Medical Doctors to head Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) who are natives and sympathizers to their course?

It cannot be business as usual, for as to sit unconcern going forward, our dignity, fundamental rights and share of the national cake to be taken for granted by any person or group of persons as a political party or government.

As a law abiding, natural humanitarian, tolerant and friendly people of Asante, we will use all legitimate means possible for our people to be given their rightful space of respect, dignity, share of our national wealth in all sphere and shape.

AYA, is demanding the following:

 KATH CEO must be a native of Asante as other teaching hospitals have

 KATH BOARD Chairman must be a native of Asante

AYA is fully in support of any government, whose policies and agenda direction goes a long way

to benefit fully the indigenes and the inhabitant of this lovely region and Ghana as whole.

Thank you.

Long live Asanteman! Long Live Ghana!

Long Live AYA
