Legal practitioner Dr. Maurice Ampaw has suggested that the use of marijuana should be officially recognized in the country.
According to him, the drug should be legalized because of its medicinal purposes so that people could use it under the recommendation of a doctor.
According to him, if it legalized, people can purchase it from pharmacies so it wouldn't be abused and smoked anywhere at any point in time.
“Marijuana should be legalized because of its medicinal purposes so that people will only take it under a doctor's prescription,” he said.
He said this in an interview on Hitz FM in relation to the arrest of hiplife musician, Kwaw Kese.
Kwaw Kese has been arrested for smoking a substance suspected to be indian hemp also known as wee.
He was arrested at a popular spot called Plus Two at Ahodwo, a suburb in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi by a patrol team of the Ashanti regional police command around 11 pm, Saturday night.
According to the lawyer, the arrest was discriminatory because there are many known people who also smoke in the country and that people shouldn't see him as the odd one out.
“It hurts me that Kwaw Kese has been used as a scapegoat,” he added.
