Nine more people have been arrested in connection with the London Heathrow cocaine scandal involving Nayele Ametefeh aka Ruby Adu-Gyamfi, making 12 arrests so far.

Three people, mostly staff of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, had earlier been arrested and remanded into the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) by a circuit court in Accra yesterday.

Sources close to the BNI indicate that the nine people, including the two ladies who were said to have travelled with Ruby, were picked up at different locations yesterday.

However, their identities were not immediately known as at press time.

The two ladies were captured in the footage of the CCTV camera at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on the day of their departure to London, having used the VVIP wing of the KIA to board their flight to London.

They were said to have fled upon the arrest of Ruby, their leader, by the British Boarder Security on Monday, November 10, 2014 upon their arrival at London Heathrow Airport.

According to a source, a careful review of the CCTV images showed that the two other ladies who also allegedly had 5kgs each of the cocaine, passed through the VVIP section in the company of Nayele Ametefeh to board the BA078 flight to London.

The street value of the 12.5kg of cocaine is said to be $5 million.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP for Assin Central, had dropped the hint last weekend that two ladies accompanied Ruby on her abortive trip and they reportedly returned to Accra same day when alarm blew and subsequently absconded to neighbouring Togo.

VVIP Admission
Government officially admitted that Nayele Ametefeh, routed the substance through the VVIP wing of the KIA.

The admission that the stuff went through the VVIP lounge was captured on the charge sheet of the three people who were brought to an Accra circuit court yesterday for allegedly aiding the drug baroness to board the British Airways flight to London, where she was nabbed.

The three are Abiel Ashitey Armah, Foreign Service Officer; Ahmed Abubakar, Protocol Officer and Kissi Theophilius, a Civil Servant.

The three paddies are said to have on November 9, 2014 at the Kotoka International Airport abetted Ms Ametefeh, aka Ruby Appiah, aka Ruby Adu Gyamfi or Angel, to convey the narcotic drug to the UK.

Appearing before Judge Francis Obiri, the accused persons, who were without counsel, denied the offence and were remanded to reappear on December 8, 2014.

The trial judge however ordered that the BNI should allow the accused persons access to their counsels and close relations within the normal working hours.

The facts of the case presented by Richard Gyambibiy, assistant state attorney at the Attorney General's Department, are that Armah is a foreign officer in-charge of the VVIP lounge at the Kotoka International Airport.

He said on November 9, 2014, Armah claimed that he was contracted by one Alhaji Daud to facilitate the passage of Nayele and two other ladies through the VVIP lounge at the airport.

According to the assistant state attorney, Armah instructed Abubakar and Kissi who work at the airport, to facilitate the passage of the three drug couriers including boarding of the British Airways flight BA78 to London with their luggage.

Mr Gyambibiy said preliminary investigations indicated that Abubakar and Kissi facilitated the passage of the three ladies by processing their passports and boarding documents.

The prosecuting officer said additionally, they (Abubakar and Kissi) carried the luggage of the said ladies onto the plane for departure to the UK.

Mr Gyambibiy further stated that it was later announced that Nayele Ametefeh had been arrested in the UK with narcotic drug in her luggage, contrary to that country's criminal code.
