The Ugandan Wicked Nanny And Our Homes

The Ugandan Wicked Nanny And Our Homes
26.11.2014 LISTEN

After viewing the You Tube on the brutality meted out to a baby girl in Uganda by a nanny, many people in Ghana and the world over were shocked by the sheer wickedness of a girl employed to take care of the baby girl. Most people in Ghana got relieved that the culprit has been arrested and put in custody pending her trial. They consider the girl as a wicked person who deserves punishment equal in measure of what she has done resulting in the poor girl being sent to hospital for treatment.

Much as the step taken to take her through legal process is in order, the authorities must take her through medical examination and a study to determine why she punished the innocent girl. Even though I do not hold brief for the Ugandan nannies, Our study has shown that most nannies are children of school going ages that are brought down from towns and villages to assist couples in their homes. They are made to do a lot of work from washing cloths and dishes, cooking and long period of babysitting. Most of them are the first to wake up from bed and the last to go to bed yet they are not sent to school or made to learn trades.

For that matter most of them become wayward and turn to stealing cash and items from the homes or punish children in their homes on the blind side of their employers. Although nannies that violate their rules of engagements deserve punishment, we need to turn our attention to couples who abuse nannies and their own children some of who have their hands burnt by their parents or guardians for stealing. To find solution to problems regarding abuse of nannies and children and the general well being of homes, the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection must intensify their study of what goes on in our domestic settings.

This program must involve traditional rulers and religious leaders and leaders of enlarged families to sensitize people on good family management. Families must be taught on the roles of all members of family with special interest on children women and nannies. While promoting the education and well being of children the roles of nannies must be regulated to the extent of allowing them to also go to schools or made to learn trades. Just as we punish nannies when they commit offences in their homes of their employees all couples who violate the rights of their nannies must be dragged to court and punished.

This way we would be able to create conditions in homes where everyone's rights would be respected for all to be provided facilities needed to be happy. The innocent children must not be neglected by their parents. The ideal situation is that all working couple must take interest in their children by making time for their children by not allowing only nannies to take of their kids throughout the day and the better parts of the night
