Should Kotoka International Airport Be Policed 24/7

In the wake of Ms Nayeli Ametefeh case should the Police service or Army Operational Unit could police our Airport? If we have an Aviation Security team then they should take control particularly at the VVIP and VIP section because on the economy ticket passengers go though a very thoroughly search by the custom officers. Those officers are doing a brilliant job and must be praised.

The drug barons are currently targeting Ghana making us a very vulnerable nation hence we must toughen our national security at all our Airports. If Ms Ametefeh has been doing such manoeuvres since 2009 goodness know how many of such people including some Ministers and high profile personnel have used this method just because of their status in society and security have perhaps been powerless or turned a blind eye rather than challenging them. No one can be trusted when it comes to such issues any more as our security is at stake. We should not even allow VVIP that the free security checks they take for granted in the wake of this saga. Whether Diplomatic favours should be re visited is up to the President to comment.

I am not an expert in this area however strongly that everyone should go through a thorough final check by customs. No one is above the law in Ghana so this should apply when everyone is travelling to go through that final thorough custom search to up lift the damage imagine of our country. It would be wise to have Aviation security offices at all our Airports and I sure we already have this.

The drug barons all over the world are not giving up on using vulnerable Airports in their attempt to get their products to Europe. Therefore Ghana must also not give up in ensuring that we have security cameras everywhere at our Airport from when passengers step in the airports parameters. In keeping our Airport free from such activities AMA may need to work closely with the aviation security to appreciate that their role is key part of aviation in keeping our Airport safe.

The role of the Aviation security or the police is known to keep Airport safe to the travelling public, staff and visitors. Therefore would challenge them to their role. It is true to appreciate that before we enter the Airport grounds the police presence is already there at the roundabout. It might be true is thinking that Nayeli used her beauty, charms and knowing how gullible some men in Ghana. Particularly when being approached by such a woman and feel privileged to be seen to such a lady and perhaps totally ignore their role and rather hypnotized on the smartness, cunning the calculated beauty presents to them.

Let's all work together in preventing further damaging saga repeating itself at our airports. It would be wrong in assuming that the custom officers are failing us when it comes to security at our airports. They are smart in detecting those criminals but for Nayeli she outsmarted the security system with the tactics she used. Perhaps pooling together with international stakeholders could help boost our expertise in this area. Thereby our custom officers could receive the same training developed country have and given the opportunity to visit such airport to see lessons learnt in operation at a busy airport. We all need to cooperate with aviation security in weeding out those cunning men and women among is who want to become rich over night so fail victims to the drug barons.
