Three babies have been adjudged the winners of the first Philips AVENT baby of the year competition to mark the company's 30th anniversary celebration.

The winner of the baby of the year competition, Zoe Gyocsi, was chosen through a public vote after judges selected 30 babies from the over 200 entries. Ariel Kwasi Kafui Nannor was in second place and Alexander- Michael Jude Kwabena Ewusi-Arthur came third.

The finalists and winner were all awarded great prizes including photo shoots with a leading photographer and a hamper of Philips AVENT products as well as Philips items for mum and dad.

The winner becomes the face of the campaign in 2015, and their win would be publicised widely via the media.

Speaking at the event, Felix Darko, General Manager for Philips Lighting, West Africa, said Philips AVENT 'is proud to celebrate this milestone with its cherished consumers here in Ghana. For 30 years, we have worked hand-in-hand with healthcare professionals, clinicians and moms to develop a long series of 'first' products, allowing us to share your most precious moments as parents.

'So it was only fitting to bring the celebration here where our products are very popular.'

Mr Darko further noted, 'The Philips AVENT baby of the year competition is here to stay as it was a success and allowed us to actively engage with our consumers.

We promise Ghanaians that the competition will be even more exciting next year.'

Dela Sowah, Deputy Minister of Gender, Children & Social Protection, addressing the public at the baby party held at the court yard of the Accra Mall commended Philips AVENT for introducing the very first and exciting Philips AVENT baby of the year competition, which according to her, had received a lot of attention among many Ghanaian parents since its launch.

'Ladies and gentlemen, these adorable and cute babies you see today, in some years to come, will become the future leaders and generation of our motherland, Ghana and as such, it is very important for us to take good care of our children and ensure we give them the best start in life,' she said.

She also used the occasion to highlight the need for proper care and nutrition for infants to survive.

She said, 'For infants to survive, grow and develop properly they require the right proportion of nutrients. Breast milk is rich in nutrients and anti-bodies and contains the right quantities of fat, sugar, water and protein that babies require.'

Ms Sowah, therefore, noted that it has become essential for the Gender Ministry to support and partner the Ministry of Health as it counsels, encourages and supports mothers to initiate exclusive breastfeeding
