President John Mahama has dissolved the governing board of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB). This comes a day after the Communications Minister Dr. Omane Boamah said on Citi FM that NACOB did not play any role in the arrest of a cocaine courier, Nayele Ametefe, even though NACOB had claimed it was involved.

A press statement signed by the Deputy Executive Secretary of NACOB said Nayele “was arrested on the November 10, 2014 through the collaborative effort of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) and its British partners.”

But UK authorities on Friday also said they did not work with NACOB to arrest the woman and that they did not have any idea Ms Ametefe was travelling to the UK with about 12kg of cocaine in her hand luggage. According to a release issued by the Chief of Staff Prosper Bani, further actions “will follow in due course.”

Nayele Ametefe was arrested on 10th November, 2014 at the Heathrow Airport with the cocaine with street value estimated to be several hundred thousands of Pounds. She is currently in the custody of the UK security agencies and expected to appear in court again on November 27.
