Isaac Essien
The KMA court in Kumasi has remanded Isaac Essien for two weeks in police custody for killing eight people via reckless driving.

He was hauled to court Wednesday morning for driving carelessly and drunk-driving.

Essien's plea was taken by the packed-to-capacity court presided over by William Boampong.

The judge remanded Essien immediately the prosecutor narrated the driver's weird action at Sofoline Wednesday evening.

Essien looked sober with his face looking downwards as he stood in the dock, sources at the court said.

Tragedy hit Kumasi on Wednesday around 10:00 pm when a DAF truck, driven by Essien, ran over seven vehicles at Sofoline.

The truck was said to be running at top speed as the driver was reportedly drunk behind the steering wheel.

Used sachets of alcoholic beverages were said to have been found in Essien's truck when it was searched.

He allegedly tried speeding away after his truck had mangled seven other vehicles in a dangerous fashion and killed eight people in the process.

A police team that was on a road check mission in the area had to shoot at the truck's tyre before Essien, who was purportedly intoxicated, could be arrested.
