Osibisa Radio must stop the propaganda
22.11.2014 LISTEN

The attention of the NPP UK Branch Communications Directorate has been drawn to a current affairs programme on Osibisa Radio, a station in the UK claiming that Dr Mahmudu Bawumia, the Running mate to the NPP Presidential candidate, had made comments about being chosen as Vice Presidential candidate because he was a Muslim. This statement made on Osibisa Radio is false and misleading and designed to bring the name of Dr Bawumia into disrepute. First of all the NPP UK Communications Directorate would like to deny that Dr Bawumia made this statement, and secondly, we would like to make it clear that the deliberate attempt by Osibisa Radio and their political financiers to impugn the integrity of Dr Bawumia would not work.

NPP UK Communications Directorate would like to point out that Dr Bawumia was the special guest of honour at a well-attended NPP UK Branch fundraising dinner dance held on Friday 14th November 2014 in London. Whilst in the UK Dr Bawumia has interacted widely with a cross section of Ghanaians resident here in the UK from all walks of life.

It is significant to further point out that the NPP Presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, selected and subsequently retained Dr Bawumia as his running mate on the sole basis of his unmatched competence and experience. Being a two time running mate to Nana Akufo Addo, Dr Bawumia was the star attraction in the 2012 Presidential election petition at the Ghana Supreme Court. His impeccable performance, intellect and integrity under concerted pressure from lawyers of the Respondents, endeared him to the nation at large. There was overwhelming and popular demand across the country for him to be retained as Nana's running mate for the 2016 general election and this was reflected when the NPP National Council, unanimously endorsed his nomination as running mate to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. Dr Bawumia's youthfulness and background complement his political and economic experience, and make him the ideal candidate to partner Nana Akufo Addo. It is therefore mischief creating to attribute the religious element of his varied attributes, as the sole reason for his retention by Nana Akufo Addo as his vice presidential candidate.

NPP UK Communications Directorate hereby calls upon all Ghanaians to disregard the comments from Osibisa Radio and treat it with the contempt it deserves. We also take this opportunity to call upon the management of Osibisa radio to stop allowing itself to be used as a tool by the NDC to spread malicious propaganda which seems to be its track record of late. It is patently clear that the NDC is mismanaging Ghana. Dr Bawumia, has on several occasions, delivered powerful economic accounts on Ghana, with dire predictions, given the Mahama government's poor performance. Dr Bawumia's record indicates that he has a grasp on the solutions to the problems face as a nation, should the NPP and Nana Akufo Addo win the 2016 general elections. We would expect a responsible broadcast station to focus on such reportage, instead of negative propaganda.
