Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has reiterated that Government has no moral right to impose a 17.5% tax on petroleum products because it has failed to show what it has done with previously introduced taxes.
He said on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem Friday that Government has introduced several taxes, ostensibly to generate revenue to develop the country but conditions are rather getting worse. The former Okaikoi South MP argues that in the midst of this failure, it is inappropriate to pile further taxes on already overburdened Ghanaians.
He further stated, there is no reason to increase the cost of fuel prices since crude oil prices had fallen from a recent high of $103 to $78.
“It's so pathetic. Government has no reason for increasing the price of petroleum products by 17.5% because fuel prices at the world market decreased from $103 to $78 last month yet Government was not able to decrease the fuel price to a more equitable cost for Ghanaians.
“The 'Truly Transformational Budget' read in 2013 was the worst killer budget because it did not transform the economy as told by the Government but rather depreciated the Ghanaian currency to a bad status," Nana Akomea insisted.
