President John Mahama is expected to announce a major shake-up in Ghana's power sector following erratic electricity supply over the months.

Ghanaians are generally frustrated due to unscheduled blackouts throughout the country. Businesses are the worst hit as some places can be without power for well over 48 hours and enjoy power for just 12 hours or a little more in a day.

According to state-owned Radio Ghana, its sources at the seat of government - Flagstaff House – have revealed that Mahama is about making massive changes “aimed at tackling some loopholes identified in the power sector.”

“Radio Ghana can also confirm that the impending shake-up is as a result of careful monitoring over the last few months of the power supply challenges and a review of what has been found to be poor customer engagement and management practice by utility providers,” the report said.

Consumers have been complaining about their home appliances getting damaged as a result of the unreliable supply of power.

The state-owned network also added that President Mahama is “expected to make some new appointments to various boards. The appointments will also affect the Energy Ministry.”
