Institute for Social research and Developmet (ISRAD) has organized Stakeholder meetings in Wa and Bolgatanga as part of a Behavioural Change Communication (BCC) intervention aimed at sensitizing the general public through evidence based strategies with information on the prevention of cholera as well as the avoidance of the emergence of Ebola.

ISRAD and its partners with support from DFID is currently implementing these interventions in the three northern regions of Ghana.

The stakeholder meetings were held separately in the two regions.

In Wa, the Upper West Regional Disease Control Officer, John Makpe stated that though the region and as a matter of fact the country is expected to record any Ebola case, about 20 cholera cases with one death have been recorded so far. He noted that all of these cases were imported particularly from Accra and Kumasi. He added that it was therefore important that the region takes steps to be on guard against these two diseases.

The acting Upper West Regional Director of Health Services, Peter Boateng tasked all stakeholders to do their bit to ensure that the project succeeds.

ISRAD is a non-profit local development organization that has been providing development services since 2006. It was founded to undertake integrated development research, design and manage development programmes to improve the lives of people. Since its inception, ISRAD has implemented projects funded by USAID/PMI, European Union, Global Fund, Ghana AIDS Commission, and Warren Buffet Foundation, focusing on malaria, local governance and decentralization, HIV/AIDS and Sexual and Reproductive Health.

The final stakeholder meeting is yet to be held in Tamale on November 25.
