An Accra court has remanded into prison custody a young man for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old nephew.

The accused, Moses Jefferson, a mason, is standing trial for allegedly having carnal knowledge of the victim at Texpo, a suburb of Accra.

At the hearing of the case in the court, presided over by Mrs. Rita Agyeman Budu, Moses denied the offence and was accordingly remanded into prison custody to reappear on December 15, 2014.

Prosecuting, ASP A. Boafo said the complainant is a petty trader and an aunt to the victim, while the accused is the uncle to the victim.

She said in July 2012, Elizabeth Agbesi, mother of the victim, sent her (victim) to the accused to stay with him due to financial constraints.

The police officer said one day, Moses gave the victim Coca Cola to drink but after doing so, she became drowsy and slept off, adding that the victim woke up the following day and realized that she was naked.

According to ASP Boafo, another time, the accused forcibly removed the pants of the victim and had sexual intercourse with her and warned her not to tell anyone else he (Moses) would kill her.

Prosecution further averred that the victim became scared and ran to the complainant where she detected that the victim's way of walking had changed.

ASP Boafo indicated that the victim, upon questioning, revealed her ordeal and the accused was arrested after a complaint had been lodged with the police.

The accused however, denied the offence in his caution statement.
