Crime & Punishment Suspect Sells Stolen Goods To Owner
NOV 13, 2014 LISTEN

Daniel Oko Sosu, a 32-year-old man who allegedly stole a generator and a water pumping machine valued at GH¢2,000 from a shop at Taifa Baukina, a suburb  of Accra, has been apprehended by the police.

He was nabbed when he attempted to sell the items to a woman at the Timber Market, Agbogbloshie, who happened to be the owner of the items.

Sosu is in the custody of the Kwabenya District police assisting in investigations.

His Nissan Primera vehicle reportedly used for the act, has also been impounded by the police.

Confirming the arrest to DAILY GUIDE , Superintendent Victoria Yamoah, Kwabenya District Police Commander, said Sosu was arrested on October 30, 2014 – the very day he allegedly stole the items.

The complainant, who sells generators, water pumping machines and other accessories at Taifa Baukina, has another shop at the Timber Market, Agbogbloshie.

On that fateful day around 8:30 am, according to the complainant, her 20-year-old son, who keeps the Taifa Baukina shop, reported that a man driving a Nissan Primera with registration number GR 4564 Q, visited the shop to ask of the prices of the items.

The complainant said while the man was bargaining with the attendant over the price, another prospective customer came in, and so the attendant decided to attend to the second customer.

In the process, Sosu allegedly picked the generator and the water pumping machine and put them into his vehicle and sped off.

The shop attendant took the vehicle number after an attempt to chase the suspect had failed; and gave it to the mother who was also in the other shop.

The mother also informed the police and other sister shops dealing in those items to be on the lookout until 1:30 pm, when the suspect arrived with the items with intent to sell them.

Daniel Oko Sosu, according to the police commander, went straight to the shop of the victim to resell the items to her when he was apprehended in the process.

He was later handed over to the Kwabenya police for investigation.

Suspect, in his caution statement, admitted to the act and pleaded for mercy.

He has since been granted bail but the vehicle used is still with the police.
