Commercial manager for Hapag Llyods Ghana, Albert Kalenda has denied reports that the shipping line is charging an Ebola levy on 20- and 40-footer containers coming into the country.

He said this in response to media publications that the shipping line is imposing an Ebola levy on cargo shipments in the sub region. Hapag Lloyds is reported to have stated that the company was going to charge a levy on shipment of goods in the sub region to cover Ebola screening in countries such as Ghana, Togo, Senegal , Cote d'Ivoire, Benin and Nigeria.

Albert Kalenda tells JOYBUSINESS, Hapag Lloyds does not have plans of imposing an Ebola levy on containers coming into the country from the sub region.

He says, 'There is nothing like that. The directive was actually meant for Cote D'Ivoire. Cote D'Ivoire was implementing something on inspection so that is why the directive came.  It never happened even in Cote D'Ivoire. So it was taken off the company website. There is nothing like that'.
