Ghana's most enduring pain is the execution of the eight retired senior military officers, the murder of three high court judges and a retired Major, including the disappearances without trace of hundreds of citizens.

The source of this pain is not difficult to fathom. The many families which have suffered from the effects of the envy which this man has harboured since his infancy – even as they put these sordid events behind them – continue to relive them each time he gets the opportunity to speak at public forums.

During the recent funeral rites of the late former IGP, S.S. Omane, in Kyebi in the Eastern Region, Mr. Rawlings was at it again. Breaching protocol which is his character, he asked for the microphone. There is hardly one Ghanaian who is not conversant with his absurd tantrums. Not even the sanctity of the church dictated a sense of responsibility in the man who has so much blood on his palm that he should count himself lucky that relatives of his victims have let bygones be bygones for the sake of the peace of the country.

We do not know what complex drives this man to think that he is the wisest Ghanaian here. He has insulted everybody and associated every politician with corruption but himself. That is the kind of man we are commenting about.

When those responsible for the deaths of so many people are being haunted by ghosts their conducts beat imagination. Perhaps that is why we are unable to exactly fathom the factors responsible for Rawlings' weird conduct.

So what is this constant mention of the unfortunate murder of the late Ya Na Yakubu Andani II and Isa Mobila? We have lived with this nonsense for far too long and almost gotten used to it regrettably. But his recent ethnic card playing in relation to the murders is something all well-meaning Ghanaians must stand up against.

It is unacceptable to state that had the murder been perpetrated elsewhere in the country on a King in the Ashanti or Eastern Regions, the killers would have been found by now.

If this is not a useless effort at generating trouble in an otherwise peaceful country, then we do not know what else it is.

Where is the evidence which he claimed he had which could lead to the unearthing of the killers of the aforementioned personalities?

He talks about probity and accountability yet the political party he unleashed upon the nation is today the most corrupt in local contemporary history - a fact Jerry Rawlings can never honestly dispute.

It would be in the best interest of his family to find a way of restraining this man from making public speeches. He might have to consider changing his pusher because the semblance of senility as evidenced in his utterances is not in the national interest.
