The village of Abenta in the Eastern Region has benefited from a year long project to provide the community with a new Crèche, Kindergarten and Primary School blocks to replace the existing dilapidated structures and the uncoompleted EU funded block.
After the establishment of a community committee the village has worked with Village by Village (the NGO carrying out the works), to achieve the planned goals of transforming the school to provide adequate education to hundreds of children who have to walk many miles to get to school. The new school will reduce the distances to be walked and has seen new teachers come that will take the school in a new direction of success. Already, enrollment has increased. The Indian Women's Association in Accra has worked in partnership with Village by Village to ensure the creche and Kindergarten is a reality.
The previously abandoned Primary block, joint funded by the District Assembly and EU has remained uncompleted for 8 years. It was part demolished, altered and rebuilt to finally provide the community with a proper structure fit for the purpose of education.
The school is also benefiting from 17 laptops that will be presented at the opening ceremony as well as certificates for the committee and the workers who in partnership with Village by Village have made the above possible.
This is the second time that Village by Village have worked closely with communities to transform a school in a rural village of Ghana, Gboloo Kofi, also near Adawso being the first such school.
The ceremony will include representatives from Ghana Education Service, the Municipal Assembly, The Methodist church and other stakeholders, including the community.
