Divine Mother and Child Foundation (DMAC), a new NGO established to identify, address and prevent complications that arise during pregnancy, labor and postpartum periods and ultimately decrease maternal and infant mortality rates in Ghana has been launched in Koforidua.

The Foundation was formed with the belief in the ability to reduce maternal and child mortality rates through education and training.

Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, Deputy Eastern Region Minister, who officially launched the Foundation, expressed her delight at DMAC's decision to focus their attention on child mortality and maternal health. The two, also, constitute Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 4 and 5.

In addition, she urged the new NGO to carve a niche for themselves in the area of their mission and vision. She further advised the Foundation to be truthful and honest since that is the only way the Foundation can succeed.

She also pledged her support to the Foundation.
Hon. William Agyapong Quiattoo, MP Akim Oda, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, charged the Foundation to continue to champion child mortality and maternal mortality issues.

He also expressed his optimism at the potential of the Foundation

Edmound Doudu, President of DMAC, said the Foundation was borne out of a deep and underlying desire to achieve MDG 4 and 5, which forms the core objectives of the Foundation.

He said the establishment of DMAC is necessary due to the fact that maternal and child mortality bring sorrow and mourning to expected couple, family and the community.

According to him, even though government is doing well in addressing MDG 4 and 5, it does also need efforts of civil societies like DMAC to assist them.
