NEW YORK, October 29, 2014/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Secretary-General met with President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti today and discussed peace and security as well as food security issues affecting the country and the wider Horn of Africa. They stressed the importance of resilience and development, particularly of the agricultural and pastoral communities.

They also discussed the situation in Somalia and stressed the importance of continued operations by AMISOM and Somali National Forces. The Secretary-General expressed gratitude for Djibouti's contributions to AMISOM and support to the Federal Government of Somalia.

The Secretary-General discussed the United Nations' readiness to support Djibouti in preparing for the elections in 2016. He also encouraged the President to continue an inclusive dialogue with all political actors and civil society in Djibouti.

The Secretary-General expressed gratitude for Djibouti's continued support of the international efforts toward the Sustainable Development Goals and climate change.
