PROCESSES for regional executive elections, ahead of keener national one, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were yesterday set in motion, as feuding parties in a legal suit made progress in their latest attempt to resolve more than a month-old power struggle in the ruling party.

Plaintiff of the case, Njonolah Linus, accepted an offer from the NDC national executive members to end the legal tussle that was centred on overstayed mandate of officers and a convention to discriminate against some members of the party to run for positions at the regional level.

Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, General Secretary of the NDC, who was in court yesterday, confirmed that the legal hassle between the two parties - that put the elections in limbo - had been resolved, and that the NDC had considered all the issues raised by the plaintiff.

”As the case progressed, we in the National Democratic Congress felt that the section of the guidelines which Linus complained about did not have a solid foundation in the [NDC] constitution, ” he noted.

Mr. Aseidu Nketiah, popularly known as General Mosquito, disclosed the leadership of the party agreed at a meeting that the plaintiff was right, and therefore expunged that clause which sought to discriminate, disqualify and prevent some members of the NDC from contesting.

In an interview, Mr. Linus told DAILY GUIDE he welcomed the party's offer, and asserted that ”democracy has won over dictatorship.”

He called on the progressive forces in the NDC to rise against ineffective leadership, and indicated that the NDC must change its current leadership.

”Very soon I will launch a campaign for change in the party,” Linus hinted.

Re-open of nomination
Meanwhile, the NDC General Secretary said the party had re-opened nominations for five days for the regional executive elections as part of the roadmap to begin the process of all the remaining elections.

The NDC is expected to conclude the ongoing electoral process from branch to national level by the close of this month; but the process was blocked by the court action.

Mr. Aseidu Nketiah said the re-opening of nomination was to correct any harm down to applicants who were disadvantaged by the convention.

He congratulated Mr. Linus for his insistence of rule of law within the NDC, pointing out that the party did not consider the plaintiff of having done anything wrong for him to be punished as move of Linus was in furtherance of the interest of NDC.
