Edward Effah , Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, has charged the youth in the country not to entertain fears in taking initiatives.

Speaking to BUSINESS GUIDE in an interview lately, he said new initiatives come with new challenges, adding that these drive entrepreneurs to achieve success.

Mr Effah was recently crowned the 2013 Marketing Man of the Year at the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) Marketing Performance Awards.

Out of 28 banks in Ghana, Edward Effah's Fidelity Bank picked the Bank of the Year Award. This is the first time in five years that a company and its head have won coveted awards.

Receiving his award at the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra, the Managing Director of Fidelity expressed his excitement at the successes the bank has chalked, saying the awards are important to him because they tell the story of many successful Ghanaians.

He said, 'Fidelity Bank began with just a business plan. We have been able to build what was seemingly impossible to what we have become today.

'The lessons I learnt are that we need to encourage Ghanaian entrepreneurs to believe in themselves,' Mr. Effah added.

Mr. Effah thanked God and dedicated the award to his mother, wife, management and staff, as well as customers of Fidelity Bank for playing diverse roles in his personal story and that of the bank.

He lauded members of his team, including Deputy Managing Director Jim Baiden for working hard to achieve the success of the bank throughout the years.

Fidelity is the first bank to introduce Agency Banking in Ghana, giving unique opportunity to the unbanked to have access to banking services.

Fidelity Bank also recently acquired ProCredit Savings and Loans, which would boost the bank's Small and Medium-scale Enterprise (SME) capabilities.

In addition, Fidelity Bank recently signed a Development Credit Authority (DCA) agreement with USAID aimed at facilitating lending to Ghana's health sector.
