Why is government messing up with us?

Why is government messing up with us?
26.10.2014 LISTEN

Although I do not have anything against the personality of H.E president John Dramani Mahama, I have grown furious against him and his government for their seemingly bad leadership style, insensitivity and seemingly disregard to the problems that confront the ordinary Ghanaian and the suffering members of the public service ever since they assumed office as government of our great republic.

I would want to put it bluntly that their government has failed Ghanaians and is continually visiting them with disaster, insensitivity, disrespect and disregard of their plight.

Although I acknowledge that leadership of a country is no small task, I also do acknowledge that the NDC government under the late president J.E.A Mills was so sensitive and a true reflection of deep love and concern for ordinary Ghanaians. That is why I do not understand why President Mahama would simply not toe the line of his predecessor and be loved by all.

Why are you doing all these to us Mr. President? Is it because you do not know hunger and poverty and so you do not care about what goes on in the lives of ordinary people?

Mr. President, the plight that you allow public servants to pass through in the hands of your government is simply unfair. When was the last time you denied members of parliament and your ministers their huge ex-gratia? Do you know the amount members of parliament take after four years as ex-gratia is fatter than what public sector workers take as their pension? Why are you being unfair to them? Why do you want to deny them their right? Why do you want to prove that you don't care about them?

The issues relating to pensions are not the only platforms you try to demonstrate insensitivity and complete disregard. There is also the issue of the three-month arrears policy that you instituted. Why do you always want to catch them by surprise? If you think that public servants have no say in the matters that affect them and that they are bound to accept whatever your government says, then I can guarantee you, Mr. President, that your plans will surely not see the light of the day.

I was one of those who believed your Better Ghana Agenda message at the initial stages and even accepted all kinds of ridicule and criticisms from friends because of my ardent support for you but you chose to betray me at the later end. How can you pay a public servant only three month arrears after they have been employed and worked for two or so years? Would you and any of your ministers accept to be treated as such?

I am grieving even as I am writing this article only because of your disregard for public sector workers. Mr. President, you have made Ghana not worth dying for. Public servants are not happy at all under your government and patriotism is lost. The urge to work for country is no more because of the way and manner in which you have treated public servants.

Mr. President, your complete disrespect and disregard for public sector workers is disheartening. I can say without fear that you have intentionally turned deaf ears to their long plea and have decided not to listen. Even if you think that paying the workers will further bring the economy crawling, I expect you to come out and breath hope to them and ask them to exercise patience rather than hiding in your shells and pretend not to be listening. It sends a bad signal to the public that you only sympathise with Ghanaians during electioneering campaigns.

Mr. President, you have a little time to redeem your image or get kicked out of office. I can assure you that Ghanaians are becoming fed up with you. All my neighbours are not interested in hearing about you. Even kids believe you have failed as a president and that you are only here to toy with Ghanaians.

Alright, Mr. President, I only pray that God helps you to get back on the right path that your predecessor left behind for you. The 2016 election is just here for Ghanaians to decide whether to retain you as their president or to kick you away and entrust the country's affairs into a safer hand.
