The bodies of all the 13 people who were killed in Thursday's  fatal accident at Danbote, a farming community near Banda Nkwanta in the Bole district of the Northern Region, have been identified and released to their respective  families for burial by the Northern Regional Police Command.

The victims were among 50 passengers travelling on a Sshanyong bus with registration number AS 3702-11 and heading towards Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region from Kalba in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of the region.

According to the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, the driver bumped into a pothole and lost control of the bus which somersaulted, following the speed it was travelling at.

Twelve persons, including some women and children, died on the spot, while another person died on admission at the Bole Government Hospital where medical officials worked throughout the night to prevent more deaths.

The PRO disclosed that the driver, his mate and other occupants currently in critical condition, were receiving medical attention at the Bole Hospital.

ASP Tetteh hinted that preliminary investigation linked the cause of the accident to over-speeding, but indicated that that was yet to be officially confirmed.

At the time of filing this report however, personnel of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) and the Motor Traffic and Transport Division (MTTD) from Tamale were on their way to the scene of the accident.

Meanwhile, the town of Kalba, where most of the deceased persons are believed to have come from, has been thrown into a state of shock and mourning over the unfortunate incident, which was said to have claimed the lives of two blood brothers.
