The mystery surrounding the actual age of a driver's mate, who is standing trial for robbery at an Accra Circuit Court has been revealed.

The accused person, Oteng Clifford, who has been charged with the offence of robbing one Aganda Cecilia of her bag containing a mobile phone, a cash of GH¢200 and other belongings, gave conflicting reports about his age.

He told the police upon his arrest that he was 18 years old but later told a court, presided over by Francis Obiri that he was aged 15.

This compelled the trial judge to give an order for Oteng to be sent to the Police Hospital for examination.

A report from the Department of Radiology of the Police Hospital signed by one Dr. Francis Offei put the patient's age at least 19 years.

Prosecuting Chief Supt. Duuti Tuaruka said the complainant is a factory attendant who lives at Tabora Alhaji Race Course in Accra while the accused is a driver's mate residing at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

He said at about 11:30am on May 24, 2014, the complainant was looking for a car to send her sick sister to the hospital so joined a taxi cab with three young men, including the accused person on board.

Chief Supt. Tuaruka stated that midway through the journey, one of them snatched the hand bag containing the aforementioned items from the back seat and pushed her out of the moving taxi cab and sped off.

The police officer averred that Cecilia sustained injuries on her face and left hand. The eye-witnesses in the area chased the taxi cab and arrested the accused person.
