Asiedu Nketia Tackles Spoilt Ballots

General secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Asiedu Nketia, has disclosed that the issue of spoilt ballot during elections is a national issue which should be tackled without political lenses.

There was countless number of spoilt ballots when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates across the country went to the polls to elect the party's flagbearer for the 2016 polls.

Several people, especially those in the political arena had chastised the NPP over the development, considering the fact that those who took part in the polls were party delegates who ideally should have known the proper way to vote.

Sharing his views on the issue, Asiedu Nketia said, 'The issue of spoilt ballot is basic problem in Ghana and it is about time that we put politics aside and address this unpleasant issue.'

Nicknamed 'General Mosquito, the NDC Chief Scribe said there were a lot of people in the country who do not know how to vote and this had been resulting in ballots being destroyed during national elections.

He, therefore, charged the stakeholders concerned including the political parties, Electoral Commission (EC) and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to collaborate to solve the anomaly.

General Mosquito said there was also ambiguity as to whether the EC or the NCCE was the right body to educate the electorates about voter education, saying, 'This ambiguity ought to be cleared now.'

The NDC big-wig added, 'It is about high time Ghanaian voters were thoroughly taught about the proper way to vote to help avert the reoccurrence of spoilt ballots during polls.'

Speaking on Hello FM, he called for political party school policy whereby experts would take their time and educate the party members about the approved ways of voting to help address the spoilt ballot problem.
