PPP Campaign For Compulsory Education — PPP
OCT 22, 2014 LISTEN

Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom
The Progressive People's Party (PPP) has asked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its newly elected presidential candidate to join the PPP to advocate the implementation of free, compulsory basic education (FCUBE) and its extension to cover senior high school education.

It called on the NPP to join the PPP to advocate election of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives without the interference of the President, and also the separation of the Ministry of Justice from the Office of Attorney-General.

In a congratulatory statement signed by the party's National Secretary, Mr Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, it further called on the NPP to advocate electoral reforms, including the use of electronic voting, and abolition of the use of polling agents.

While the PPP congratulated Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on winning the NPP primary  to become the party's presidential candidate for the 2016 presidential election, it also lauded the party for going through its primary successfully.

According to the PPP, the elections confirmed the fact that Ghana had chosen the ballot box as the way to choose political leaders.

It called on the NPP to take time to address the allegations that cropped up during the campaigning period about intimidation of supporters of opposing candidates, the use of money to influence the choices of voters and the “bad blood” between the winning candidate and his handlers on one hand, and key members of the party's national executive on the other.

'As we all know, it is one thing to win internal elections and another to win a national election,' it stated.

The PPP believes that 'we must all join hands to stop the creating, looting and sharing of our tax money,' and therefore urged Nana Akufo-Addo to seize the moral high ground and condemn the use of state's resources to fund the campaign of political parties in government.

'This has caused the current economic hardship from which all of us are suffering. The NPP should be wide awake and support the PPP,' it concluded.
