NPP NPP stands to gain a lot if Bawumia is retained as running mate - Steve Ntim
OCT 22, 2014 LISTEN

Former First Vice Chairman of the opposition NPP, Stephen Nitm, is rooting for the retention of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party's vice presidential candidate for the third time.

In his view, the NPP stands to gain a lot from Dr. Bawumia should they win power in 2016 given what he says is the current economic crisis the nation has been plunged in by the 'incompetent' Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

“In Nana Addo we have a legal luminary and an incorruptible leader and in Dr. Bawumia is an economic whiz kid to save Ghana from this economic mess” he told Myjoyonline in an exclusive interview Wednesday.

Flagbearer-elect Nana Akufo-Addo is set to name his running mate for the 2016 election on Thursday October 22, 2014 after consultation with the party's National Council which is the second highest decision making body.

But the choice of the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana will not come as a surprise to many, since Nana Addo in the run-up to the party's congress gave indications that he would retain him [Bawumia] if given the nod.

This, Stephen Ntim noted, will be a step in the right direction because “you don't change a winning team”.

“We believe we won the 2012 elections that is why we challenged it in court and Dr. Bawumia played a key role” he stressed.

Enumerating some of the reasons for the entrenched position taken, the Former First Vice Chairman said through the hard work of Dr. Bawumia, the NPP was able to win new seats in the north in 2012.

“Dr. Bawumia as the running mate is a matter of cause; he has a lot to offer the NPP” he added.

Steve Nitm is convinced the two gentlemen [Nana, Bawumia] are the best pair to restore hope and bring relief to Ghanaians. Story by Ghana/Adomonline.com/Adwoa Gyasiwaa
