NPP Primary: Akufo-Addo has shown true leadership - Allotey Jacobs
21.10.2014 LISTEN

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has heaped praise on the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, for his conduct during the just ended presidential primary of the largest opposition party.

Bernard Allotey-Jacobs, currently Central Region Communications Director of NDC, says Nana Akufo-Addo's “conduct and demeanour” during the sometimes vitriolic campaign, when he chose to ignore all taunts and provocations and rather focused on his message to the delegates, is the “mark of a true leader.”

“Nana Akufo-Addo has shown he is a true leader” Allotey-Jacobs declared on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem morning show Tuesday.

“His attitude, conduct and the way he carried himself is highly commended. The way people like Ohene Ntow were speaking about him was not nice. But the way he ignored all of them and concentrated on his campaign shows he is a true leader.”

Several supporters of the Alan Kyerematen bid attacked Nana Akufo-Addo on a wide spectrum of issues, including his age and his failure to win on two previous occasions.

Some, like Katakyie Opoku Agyemang of the infamous Get Alan Kyerematen Elected (GAKE) fame even went further, predicting Nana Akufo-Addo's death.

Their message however appears to have had very little impact in Saturday's congress, with the former Trade minister seeing his share of the vote further dwindle to under 5% from 7% while that of his main competitor, rose to 94.34% from 81% in an earlier contest.

A third candidate, Francis Addai-Nimoh, won less than 1% of the over 125,000 votes cast.

Bernard Allotey-Jacobs, who is aspiring to be Central Region Chairman said despite political differences, Nana Akufo-Addo deserves commendation, as his decision to ignore the taunts defused any potential conflicts and has largely united the party.

“That is the mark of a true leader,” he concluded.
