The Kumasi Hub of the Global Shapers community of the World Economic Forum as part of the celebrations marking the Global Dignity Day has held a program for students of Okyerekrom MA Junior High School to spread awareness on the importance of dignity among the youth on 15th October, 2014.

The day saw members of the hub fanning out into the school to spread awareness on the importance of dignity among the youth and sharing their personal experiences with students on issues ranging from global dignity,climate change,bullying,good governance and civic responsibilities.

The Global Dignity Day launched in the year 2006 is recognised annually on the third wednesday in October to affirm the following creed: “We all want our Dignity to be recognized. Dignity is the very foundation of our humanity. Dignity is universal. Dignity is also the source of human rights.”

The initiative inspires respect, self-esteem and tolerance of diversity and promotes the idea that every human being has the universal right to lead a dignified life.

Global Dignity has developed a course on dignity, including five dignity principles, which is taught in schools around the world annually on the third Wednesday in October and celebrated as Global Dignity Day.

According to the curator of the Kumasi Hub of the Global Shapers,the Global Dignity concept needs to be inculcated in students who are the decision makers of the future as they can then be guided by these principles of dignity that will ultimately help in ensuing a harmonious future society.

Speaking at the event,Ms Rosalin Kyere Nartey said the Kumasi Hub of the Global Shapers has jointly initiated a project with the Bright Generation Community Foundation known as the Pads For Dignity Initiative which seeks to curb the hight rates of menstruation related absenteeism among girls in their puberty especially those from deprived communities to enable them fulfill their academic potential by providing the protection they need to attend school during their menstruation thus impacting directly on the Millenium Development Goals 3(gender equality)and keeping girls in school(MDG2)

She said since every girl deserves access to safe and hygienic sanitary products,it is the goal of the Pads For Dignity Initiative to help girls reclaim the dignity that poverty denies them that will enable girls to make a lasting and positive impact on the communities they live in and society as a whole.

On behalf of the Kumasi Hub of the Global Shapers,Ms Kyere presented to 50 girls from the Okyerekrom MA Junior High School menstrual pad supplies that will last them for a year.
