Defeated New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Alan Kyerematen will be given a role to play in the campaign team of the elected flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Aide to the opposition party's new leader, Mustapha Hamid, disclosed on the Super Morning Show, Monday October 20, 2014, that Mr. Kyerematen and  Francis Addai Nimoh would be assigned key roles to play when the NPP's campaign team is formed, to ensure a resounding victory in the elections.

“By all means, Alan Kyerematen would be in the fray, he would be in the gutters, he would be in the trenches; he would be working,” Mustapha Hamid told Kojo Yankson, host of the Show.

“The role that all of us are supposed to play is the role that canvasses votes and support for our bid to win power,” he added.

He, however said the specific role the former Trade Minister is to play in the campaign will be determined by leaders of the party.

“As to whether he would be working in the Ashanti Region or he would be working in the party headquarters that is left with Kwabena Agyapong (General Secretary) and the flagbearer and the national executive to determine”.

Mr. Kyerematen polled 5,908 votes representing only 4.75% against Nana Akufo-Addo who polled 117,413 representing 94.35 percent of total votes cast, the highest percentile recorded by any presidential aspirant in the country.

In a related development, Mr. Hamid has denied rumors that Nana Akufo-Addo prior to the 2012 elections set up a parallel campaign team which was well resourced at the expense of the team which was formed by the party leadership.

“That's not true…it's not possible for anybody to set up a parallel structure out of the party's structure. It never happened,” rebutted. Story by Ghana | Myjoyonline.com | Jerry Tsatro Mordy | [email protected]
