General News Release our Tier Two payments: Health workers warn government
OCT 19, 2014 LISTEN

The Health Services Workers Union (HSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) is demanding operationalisation of their Health Sector Occupational Pension (Second Tier) Scheme.

The health workers are however displeased about what they say is government's handling of the scheme.

The Union in a statement bemoaned the government's lack of payment of their SSNIT (Tier One) Contributions and questioned its insistence on managing their Tier Two Scheme.

They insisted that the Tier Two Scheme is private and not public property for government to claim.

It said the move by government to disallow the registered Health Sector Occupational Pension, and other public sector schemes to operate and rather create one broad scheme, the Pensions Alliance Trust; with the aim of having a majority representation, is against the spirit of the Pensions Act.

The statement signed by the chairman, Rev Richard Yeboah warned that government's decision to impose the Trust on public servants, and delays in paying employment contributions could stifle the Scheme.

Rev. Yeboah also warned workers will resist any attempt by government to impose the Pensions Alliance Trust which, in their opinion would deny them of the benefits of the Tier Two arrangement.

The HSWU also expressed readiness to participate in any mass action by other public workers making the same demands.
