Over 120,000 delegates of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have endorsed the 2012 Presidential Candidate Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the third consecutive time as the preferred choice to lead the NPP.

This means Nana Addo has been given the mantle once again to lead the NPP come 2016 when Ghanaians go to the polls.

NPP Delegates waited for the Electoral Commission of Ghana to officially declare Nana Addo as the winner at the Efua Sutherland Children's Park in Accra.

All the three contestants Nana Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyerematen and Hon. Francis Addai-Nimoh were present at the declaration grounds.

Amadu Sulley leading the EC to announce and declare the winner said the EC was grateful for the confidence reposed in the commission to organise the elections making it one of the most peaceful.

He also commended the three candidates, the security personnel exhibiting professionalism, and immense role of the media which helped the process to be transparent.

“I would like to thank Electoral officers from head office to regional offices demonstrating they are capable of professionalism as they worked well in collaboration with the NPP Party Electoral Committee and the elections itself. The committee did its work despite the challenges.”

NPP went to the polls on Saturday in a presidential primary to elect its presidential candidate for the year 2016 with three candidates Nana Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyerematen and Hon. Francis Addai-Nimoh.

According to official results, Nana Akufo-Addo secured 117, 413 representing 94.35% of total valid votes cast as against his closest rival Alan Kyerematen, who polled 5,908 representing 4.75% of valid votes and Hon. Addai-Nimoh walking away with 1,108 representing 0.91% of total valid votes cast.

Three candidates emerged at the frontline for the final lap of the elections vying for the flagbearer slot.

This was after an initial seven contested at a super delegates' congress in August to prune down the number to five according to the NPP Party Constitution.

They included Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Hon. Joe Ghartey, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Hon. Osei Ameyaw and Hon. Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The number was pruned down to five with two bowing out of the race apparently making way for the three to carry the baton to the finish line.

With the NPP going through this hurdle, it now has to take the trouble to reorganise and mobilise all perceived factions in an effort to bury all infightings before the year 2016.
