An 18-member delegation of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mining and Energy last Monday paid a working visit to the factory of Reroy Cables in Tema.

Reroy Cables is a top local electrical cables manufacturer in Ghana.

In an interaction with the Management of the company, MP for Pru East Constituency, Kwabena Donkor, who led the 18-member delegation to the factory urged local indigenous companies to be proactive, innovative and retool their facilities to lead the development projects of the country.

Speaking on behalf of the CEO, an Executive Director of Reroy Cables, Mr. Reginald Quartey Papafio, cited high import tariffs, competition from foreign companies, lack of access to market, high and inadequate electricity supply and lack of subsidies and grants as some of the serious challenges facing local indigenous companies in the Cable industry.

The President of AGI, Mr. James Asare-Adjei, who was part of the delegation also admonished local indigenous companies to try as much as possible to use local raw materials to produce their goods and services.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee, Kwabena Donkor said, the committee is dedicated to promoting local content in the mining and energy sector of the country's economy.

"Our visit today is to see in practical realities of what our local indigenous companies can do and the challenges they face”, he said.

The delegation toured the factory and was impressed with the hygienic conditions and several state-of-the-art machines installed by Reroy Cables.

The cable manufacturing company has capacity to meet both local and international demands, according to officials of Reroy.

“We are very proud of seeing for ourselves that Reroy Cables is really serious and strategically positioned to deliver local content for the cable industry in Ghana”, Dr. Donkor stated.
