Reroy Hosts Parliamentary Select Committee On Energy

THE Parliamentary Select Committee on Mining and Energy recently paid a working visit to the Reroy Cables Factory in Tema.

Kwabena Donkor, who led an 18-member delegation to the factory, called on local indigenous companies to be proactive, innovative and retool their facilities in order to lead the development projects of the country.

An executive director of Reroy Cables, Reginald Quartey Papafio, who represented the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), told the committee that high import tariffs, competition from foreign companies, lack of access to market, high and inadequate electricity supply and lack of subsidies and grants were some of the serious challenges facing indigenous companies in the cable industry.

President of AGI, James Asare-Adjei, who was part of the delegation, also admonished local indigenous companies to use local raw materials to produce their goods and services.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee, Kwabena Donkor said, 'The select committee has the oversight responsibility for the mining & energy sector of our economy, and we are consciously delighted in promoting local content. Our visit today is to see in practical realities of what our local companies can do and the challenges they face.'

The delegation toured the factory and was impressed with the sanitary conditions and several state-of-the-art machines installed by Reroy Cables and the capacity of the company to meet local and international demands.

'We are very proud of seeing by ourselves that Reroy Cables is really serious and strategically positioned to deliver local content for the cable industry in Ghana,' Kwabena Donkor indicated.
