NDC Many kick against NDC's 'Ebola clauses'
OCT 14, 2014 LISTEN

There has been fierce resistance to attempts by some big shots within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to circumvent the party's constitution.

Riled by the development, a youth leader of the party, Linus Njonolah has applied for an interlocutory injunction to be placed on the NDC's upcoming elections to get key aspects of the party's constitution he felt have been breached rectified.

His supporters have likened the breaches to the deadly Ebola virus which has claimed thousands of lives, and is threatening the doors of Ghana. They feared the status quo being upheld by the current executives would injure the fortunes of the youth in future.

The party is saying one can only contest regional elections unless he or she goes through the mill by contesting at the ward, branch, and constituency levels of the party.

“A lot of people are behind me. I have been receiving about a thousand calls, hundred calls a day, [text] messages, WhatsApps. On my Facebook wall, people are saying this Ebola clause must go. I think I have support and the support is still coming,” Linus Njonolah told Joy News on Tuesday after a High Court in Kumasi heard his application.

Meanwhile, the court has cautioned the NDC is likely to be divided by its ruling regarding the alleged breach of party regulations by the party hierarchy.

The trial Judge, Jacob Boon, says he has studied the merits of the case on both sides and already has an idea of his ruling.

Luv News' Erastus Asare Donkor who was in court told Joy News the judge intimated that having looked at the merits of the case, whoever wins will divide the front of the party.

He reported the judge as saying even though Linus looks like a “small boy” physically, he has many followers. He therefore advised the two factions to settle the case out of court.

“I feel like I am a big person now because I am fighting for the cause of majority of people in the party,” Linus Njonolah assessed his cause. Story by Ghana | Myjoyonline.com| Isaac Essel | [email protected] | twitter: @isaacessel
