President Mahama Must Act Beyond The Cosmetic Dismissals

Press Release President Mahama Must Act Beyond The Cosmetic Dismissals
OCT 2, 2014 LISTEN

The African Young Conservatives Dialogue, Ghana challenges the President, John Dramani Mahama to act swiftly beyond firing the head of the Youth Enterprise Support Fund (YESF) to ensure that any errant conduct is dealt with.

In welcoming the action taken, in responding to the request by the TAYCD GH, we also reckon that unlike the Elvis Afriyie Ankrah reshuffle back to the Flagstaff House, concrete punitive action must be dispensed and justice served. That said we unequivocally demand from the president to apply same force put on Kojo Adu Asare to go to Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and others to prove that the president is on tops of his leadership role.

The President under Article 297(a) has the final authority to hire and fire any of his appointees if he so deemed fit. However, recent developments at GYEEDA and others and the indecisive and lackadaisical posture taken by the president to deal with the rot perpetrated at those institutions has become a source of worry particularly the youth for whom the GYEEDA has been created and now the YESF.

The president has not shown leadership and preparedness to support any meaningful public sector reforms necessary to revitalize the poor and malfunctioning state institutions such as the GYEEDA and this appears to be the manifest indecision even as captured in his own book: My First Coup d etat. It is our observation that, the president acted based on only public outcry and media probing. It needs to be pointed out that, the President's penchant for inaction and delayed effort at taking urgent and strong decision has cost horrific collateral damage to the nation having to commit huge financial resources in dealing with those aberrations he fails to proactively deal with.

It is surprising that several months after his State of the Nation Address in which he announce the GHC10 MillionYouth Enterprises Support Fund, the youth are yet to derive any serious benefit. A great number of the youth with the requisite business initiative are biting their fingers in dejection and helplessness whereas so much rot and cash stashing at the GYEEADA had not been dealt with.

Further, the LESDEP programme is not making resonating impact on the livelihoods of most Ghanaian youth

Having already expressed our anxiety on the cosmetic nature of the YESF,our fears are further heightened by the axing of the head of the YESF.

President Mahama must demonstrate serious commitment to fighting the endemic corruption that has plagued this nation unprecedentedly under his careless watch. Obviously, this wanton and unbridled corruption has robbed the youth of employment opportunities, quality education, accessible health care among others .
