Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has described as waste of resources the United Nation's decision to set up an Ebola centre in Accra.

He said countries which are hit by the deadly virus should rather benefit from the money which will be spent to put up the centre.

The United Nations Mission on Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) is expected to establish a mission and set up of a logistics centre in Accra. The Chief of Staff, Prosper Douglas Bani, led a government team to meet with the UN team.

About one hundred out of two hundred and fifty (250) UN personnel deployed to Ghana, will be operating from Ghana.

The Mission's mode of transporting logistics will be by air, sea and road. Already some logistics including vehicles have arrived in Ghana.

But the Manhyia MP noted on Asempa FM's Ekosii sen Monday that “it worries me a lot because considering the resources alone, I think it is a waste. The monies can be used to help the needy from these Ebola hit countries because they are the affected countries.”

Though Napo as he is popular called lauded the decision, he believes that the centers should either be in Liberia or Sierra Leone adding that, the risk of introducing the virus in the country is high.

The Ebola disease has claimed over 2,000 lives in the West African sub- region. The world's largest outbreak of Ebola has caused 2,800 deaths so far, mainly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

New figures suggest that 70 percent of those affected have died from the disease. The figures are higher than what was reported previousl
