CIA & EOCO Should Investigate The Whereabouts Of GHC64m Medical Equipment Meant For K.T.H—Chairman “Wontumi”

Bernard Antwi Bosiako, a leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Economic and Organise Crime Unit (EOCO) of the United States and Ghana respectively to launch separate investigation into the where about of $ 20 Million (about GH 64 Million) worth of medical equipment donated by the Walter Reed Hospital of the US for the establishment of two (2) world class standards of neurosurgery operating Centers to serve the entire West African region.

According to the NPP regional Chairman of Ashanti, he discovered during his recent trip to the US that part of the said equipment donated to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital through the government Ghana in 20011 have been diverted and “nicodemusly” shipped into the country by some un-named government functionaries close to the presidency,through a private consignee and are allegedly selling them to private hospital owners.

The NPP Ashanti Regional scribe could not understand why the remaining donation is still been kept in some unknown warehouses in the USsince November 2011 at a whooping monthly cost of $30,000 to the Ghanaian tax payer under the flimsy excuse that government of Ghana could not bear the cost of re-calibrating them to suit Ghanaian and African standards.

Chairman Wontumi alleged that the equipment which included some breast screening equipment and medical libraries meant for Ghanaian and Liberian hospitals and medical schools respectively cannot be traced and therefore called on the relevant investigative bodies of both Ghana and US to take the matter up and unveil the hidden faces behind the “missing” facilities.

Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako expressed shock that government of Ghana seem uninterested to investigate the matter due the hidden private interest of some high profile government functionaries close to the presidency within the Mahama led NDC administration.

“If our government is caring enough and committed to the medical welfare of its people, it will not allow such a donation to be going waste and rotten whiles others are been sold into private pockets of mischievous government and top party functionaries” Mr. Antwi-Boasiako stated
