Centralized Databases System News Is Welcoming, But Can NIA Be Trust?
28.09.2014 LISTEN

I will want to salute His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for making sure a centralized database system is operated as stated in my petition in April 2014. He spoke for the need of this system of data collection and sharing 4 days after the petition was published and he indeed agreed to the need and benefits of a centralized database system.

True to his words, NIA has come up with the blue print and now seeking for funding with Public Private Partnership as the module. It is also refreshing to know that the chief of staff is in charge to make sure all government entities that uses data in their operations come to the table to see this project firmly grounded.

I also want to thank all Ghanaians who found wisdom in my petition and signed it as well as shared the content for others to come to the appreciation of the need for a centralized database system when it was published on change.org.

Your excellency the critical fearless and logic question is, CAN NATIONAL IDENTIFICATION AUTHORITY "NIA" be trusted? This comes at the backdrop of the GHC 21M that has gone down the drain as they seek $115M for this new project. Your excellency who consulted for the NIA in the first project that did not meet it targets for us now to go on a more detailed path? It is quite dishonest to say that, now the desired technology is available for such task of creating a centralized database system to justify the amount needed and reason for the failure of the first one.

Ghana is not the first country to pursue such technological adventure, all developed nations have deployed this form of technology even at era when ICT was not well advanced like now. Your excellency my fear is rightly placed because it is as though there is a magic wand for scandals by some position holders or some Ghanaians anytime huge monies are involved in projects that the benefits are enormous for the nation. What kind of research was done into the first one? What kind of architecture was agreed upon? Upon who's advice did the project take off in 2007? Are all these people going to be involved in this one? How can we be sure in the next 7-10 years NIA won't come back for money for a supposed new technology? Is NIA sure that they are now poised to put Ghana in another record venture?

Your excellency President Nkrumah's legacy is Akosombo Dam, President Rawlings is rural electrification, president Kuffor is NHIS, president Mills health and allied science university, this can be your legacy too. I beseech you with all mercies to make sure no room for scandal is created because this wholistic system alone will debug many loop holes that us cause this nation huge wastage over the years. Singapore, China, European Union "schengen" Cyrpus etc are all typical example of what a centralized database system benefit can be. A nation of 25M it must an easy task devoid of any scandal, I pray and hope that the private entity IMS and leadership of NIA and other government institutions will see this project become scandal free and give Ghana value for our money.

God bless our home land Ghana
