The G.A.R.S.R.C is a student union, whichhas a membership of about 60 sixty schools including all government assisted second cycle schools( Secondary, Secondary Technical, Vocational and Secretarial)and interested private Institutions in the Greater Accra Region. The council aims at the 'emancipation of students through dialogue and a philosophy of non – violence', so as Senior High School students, we voice out our predicaments to the government and other stakeholders,through peaceful communications but NOT to embark on rampages or riotous demonstrations.

The Greater Accra Regional Students Representative Council (G.A.R.S.R.C) is the official mouthpiece of second cycle students in the region. The council also serves as a forum for students to organize themselves in all spheres of endeavour for the creation of avenues to enable them channel their energies into productive ventures in an atmosphere free of Social, Cultural, Political and Academic prejudice which may militate against the development in their educational sector and the students” community as a whole.

Thecouncil was established in the year 1985 to also:

1. Ensure a constant flow of information between educational authorities and students in the Region.

2. Create an atmosphere for the resolution of social, educational and political problems that may militate against the development of students in the region.

3. Groom students ineffective leadership skills not only in school leadership positions but to take up leadership positions in the nation.

4. Seek to influence administrational policies as pertaining to students by holding regular meeting with the school authorities and all stakeholders concerned with the management of schools.

5. Constitute a mouthpiece (platform) for the interest of students of the Second Cycle Institutions in the Region and offer a common forum for the discussion of student

challenges.
LEADERS OF THE COUNCIL
The Regional Executive Committee herein after called the REC shall consist of officers elected at the Regional SRC Annual Residential Congress and shall consist of;

a. Regional President
b. Regional Vice President
c. Regional Secretary
d. Regional Vice Secretary
e. Regional Trustee(s) (Zone 1, 2, & 3)
f. Two nominated and approved ex-officio members going by the name of Regional Coordinators in charge of;

1. Programmes, Students Affairs and Public Relations,

2. Finance and Administration
The local SRCs assess the effect of prefectural policies on students, inviting the prefect in question to present details of those policies where necessary.

The council at the school level acts as the ultimate voice of the students, with its Executives serving as prime student leaders to ensure probity: supervising discipline among students and promotion of rights and positive interest of students. The school authorities in collaborative efforts with the SRC executives organize ceremonies and programmes and maintain school protocol.

In pursuance of the stated objectives, the Regional SRC in collaboration with the Local councils in the various schools;

a) Organize symposia, workshop s, seminars and conferences on leadership.

b) Help solve problems pertinent to member institutions and student in general.

c) Periodically meet with educational authorities to exchange ideas in decision-making.

d) Contribute immensely to the provision of infrastructure such as noticeboards, water

reservoir, furniture, etc.
e) Seek the opinion of experts to resolve educational challenges and other related issues.

f) Organize educational trips, inter-school debates, quizzes, public speaking competitions,

essay contest, sports, unfair etc.
In addition, there are constitutionally mandated meetings, which are held periodically for the general welfare of SHS students.

From the constitution of the G.A.R.S.R.C:
• There shall be at least two Central Committee Meetings herein after called The CC every Academic Year, to:

1. Transact any necessary business and undertake major decisions for the entire Council.

2. Approve programmes and projects planned by the REC.

3. Receive and approve budgetary estimates for a particular term.

4. Discuss reports from committees set up by the Council.

5. Make by-laws within the framework of this constitution

• There shall be an Annual forum for Patrons at the Local level to meet REC members in the first term of every academic year.

The forum shall serve the following purpose:
1. Discuss issues relevant to the SRC.
2. Inform patrons on the modus operandi of the SRC for that Academic year.

3. Map out effective strategies to ensure the smooth operation of the SRC.

• There shall be an Annual GARSRC Students' Week Celebration to be celebrated in January or February each year.

The purpose of the Week Celebration shall be to focus on the challenges of education and the contribution of students to quality education in the previous year

• There shall be at least one (1) Regional General Meeting.

The meeting shall be used to gather information on the problems of the various member institutions as well as equipping the leaders of the various member institutions with some fundamental leadership skills.

• There shall be an Annual Congress of the Greater Accra Regional SRC

The purpose of the Congress is to:
 Expose delegates to concept of SRC.
 Train participants on effective leadership skills.

 Receive reports of the REC and assess the general performance and direction of the council in line with its aims and objectives.

 Receive the Council's financial report.
 Consider constitutional issues and make by-laws within the framework of the constitution to regulate the conduct and discipline of Congress and the Council in general.

 Receive other reports.
 Elect new officers for the Zonal and Regional Councils.

 Plan and adopt new strategies for improving upon the performance of the council.

 Transact any necessary business and undertake major decisions within the jurisdiction of the Council.
