Agence Française de Développement (AFD) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of CEFEB, its Corporate University headquartered in Marseilles, France. As part of activities marking the event, AFD organised a Roundtable on the theme “Moving to the Next Level – Ghana's Transformation Agenda” and a Photo Exhibition dubbed “From the Blackboard to E-learning” on 24th September 2014. Hosted by Alliance Française, the Exhibition showcases the different stages in the life of CEFEB, from its very beginning as a centre for training AFD's collaborators on the ground to presently a centre of transfer of skills and innovation for development with the capacity of providing distance education (e-learning).

CEFEB (Centre for Financial, Economic and Banking studies) delivers high level technical training in banking, finance and project management to decision-makers and managers of AFD's partner countries, mainly in Africa. Specifically designed to provide solutions to development challenges or to meet needs expressed by AFD's collaborators, CEFEB's Master's programme crosses the boundary between theoretical research and proven operational practices in the field, thus building capacity and eventually human capital for the promotion of economic growth and development.

Here in Ghana, 30 executives from various companies, agencies and government ministries have graduated from CEFEB's Master of Project Management and Public or Private Sector Financing. In addition to that, many senior executives have benefited from CEFEB's ad-hoc seminars on specific themes such as Public Private Partnership, Public Finance Management, etc. Tailor-made seminars can also be organised upon request from local institutions.

Every year, call for submission of applications to the Master's programme is sent out in January or February to organisations in both public and private sectors, especially financial institutions and ministries. Successful applicants get the opportunity to go to Marseilles, France, to undertake the Programme. Each programme is broken into two sessions of 2½ months each within the year. Candidates are thus able to return to Ghana in between the two sessions to continue their official duties. This ensures that, even though the candidate is pursuing higher studies, his or her professional duties are not seriously perturbed.

For the last admission process that ended in June 2014, one candidate emerged successful from a para-statal institution to pursue the 2014-2015 Master's programme in Marseilles, France.
